ABUJA, June 19 () -- Nigeria has adopted a Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) to tackle the current security challenges and avert further attacks on churches, according to a statement by the Nigerian police authorities.The police did not give details of the procedure but said all state headquarters of the force would adopt it in the deployment of operatives to places of worship and vulnerable government institutions."This is designed to help prevent and manage attacks targeted at such installations," it said, adding that the police were working with state and local governments, religious and traditional leaders and other stakeholders to ensure peace across the nation.Meanwhile, the police said it had returned normalcy to the northwestern state of Kaduna after the attacks on three churches in the metropolis on Sunday.The police authorities said a deputy inspector-general of police had relocated to the state as a result of the attacks and that the redeployed senior cop would remain in the state to coordinate police operations.At least 16 people were killed and dozens were injured in coordinated attacks on three different churches in northwest Nigeria's Kaduna State on Sunday, sparking a reprisal attack by irate youths who were incensed by bloodshed and wanton destruction of property in the state.The dreaded Islamic Boko Haram sect which operates mainly in the northern part and capital city of Nigeria on Monday claimed responsibility for the brutal attacks.
